Tools of His Craft

Kiyoshi's dedication to his music is not limited to crafting fine songs and perfecting his performing skills. It also extends to the tools that he uses. Kiyoshi is not just a master at the guitar, but he has made an effort to be an accomplished player of a wide variety of other instruments; traditional and not-so-traditional. For example, in order to get the sounds he wanted, in the album "songs from the sidewalk saloon," Kiyoshi not only played his Lotus™ guitar, but also performed on a piano, banjo, sitar,  gu zheng, dumbek, organ, tar, drum machine and drum set, harmonium, shakers, glokenspeil, tambura, a key scraped on a little bone skull, and a glass bottle full of mahjong pieces.

Kiyoshi's Lotus guitar is a prime example of his passion for mastering all aspects of his craft. Not satisfied to just buy a guitar, he wanted to thoroughly grasp all aspects of the instrument and assimilate the guitar's full potential. To this end, Kiyoshi committed himself to building an instrument that conformed to his needs and desires. The result of this endeavor, working under the tutelage of a master luthier in England, is his custom-made Lotus guitar.
