A Musical Profile

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, guitarist, singer, & songwriter Kiyoshi Foster finds balance in opposites, writing music influenced by many different traditions. Growing up listening to great music icons such as Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Miles Davis, Van Morrison & Bob Marley; Kiyoshi has understood the power of music from an early age. Starting from those early influences he reached backwards to Robert Johnson & Woody Guthrie and forwards to U2 & Dave Matthews.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music with a degree in jazz, and spending 18 months studying Indian Classical Music, in 2004 Kiyoshi Foster found himself "Down & Out In San Francisco" playing music on the historic corners of North Beach.

From the curb to the clubs; in just two short years Kiyoshi Foster climbed his way to the top of San Francisco's musical elite. He hosted a Songwriter's Workshop at The Poet's Galley, Co-Produced/Co-Hosted "The Purple Friday Show", an Olde Tyme Variety Show at The Purple Onion that ran for nine months, and performed in some of the cities best music clubs (The Fillmore, 12 Galaxies, Cafe Du Nord, Bottom Of The Hill, Red Devil Lounge, Biscuits and Blues).

Kiyoshi's musical career continues to evolve. Now splitting his time between his original Massachusetts home and his new-found San Francisco environment, he has completed a series of albums, including the higly regarded "Songs From The Sidewalk Saloon" and "Medium." Currently, he is producing and performing "The Wednesday Night Sessions" at San Francisco's Giordano Bros. Teamed up with fellow Bostonian Sean Leahy, Kiyoshi has been joined by many great musicians including among others; Dan Leibowitz (Jack Johnson & ALO), Trevor Garrod & Josh Clark (Tea Leaf Green), Garrin Benfield, Nejdet Ulu, Justine Bennett & members of London Street, Four Year Bender, and The Floating Lotus. The 2008 saw the formation of THE KIYOSHI FOSTER BAND and the release of their self titled album.
